Even if it had been marketed towards a remedial audience, this book would still be an insult to the readers intelligence.

She just does one stupid thing after the next. Relax, white men are still allowed to be bullies, they're just gonna be called. She tells Finn a long and elaborate sob story, culminating in a strange request for Finn to relay a message to him on her behalf.
All my opinions are my own. Oh my god, you have GOT to be kidding me. This author will definitely be on my radar for up-coming books.
137 reviews. This is a great read and show for teens. It looks like we don't have any Plot Summaries for this title yet. It looks like we don't have a Synopsis for this title yet. She was the sort of character that often did things that made no sense and it became quite clear early on that the story needed her to do that for there to be a story. I doubt i would read any more after reading this one. When she visits her grandfather which she hasn't done in ten years the memories slowly come back. She goes back to the house where she spent many a happy summer with her family members at her aunt Evelyn and uncle John's house. She also sees the face of a young girl who looks like a very young version of her (about twelve years old- Mandy was thirteen the last time she was at the house.) As always love her writing. With its forty something chapters, I started to get annoyed with its too slow plot from chapter nine.

The main character was unsympathetic to me after expressing her bullshit opinion about how the political climate is hard on white men. I pushed through to finish it quickly. This book was ok, but suffers from a plethora of awful characters. This is the first Cathy Glass book I have read. Ok so you could guess something had happened to Mandy before its revealed in the story but I her true life stories you have speculations about what children have gone through.

Be the first to contribute! Finn is the girl in the title of this book. Geez. She has left another persona and an unspecified secret behind her before becoming the nanny for, Amabel, the granddaughter of a senator from Arizona. I believe this is her debut but it doesn't read like one. At the same time it was hard to read because of the subject matter. Again, no one cares that white men are now facing minor consequences, that largely amount to inconveniences, when they are outed in racist, sexist, antisemtic, transphobic or homophobic statements, actions or policies.

I —. When Mandy learns her much-loved Grandpa is dying, she returns to the house where she spent so many wonderful summers as a child.

When the toast popped up she spread a thin dab of butter. Her grandpa is very ill and although she's accompanied to the house by her dad, she decides to stay and help her family care for him. Obviously, I don’t expect to learn everything about a character within the first few pages, but I need to know enough about the protagonist’s backstory to make me care about them as a person, and I just didn’t get that here. It made the story seem very real. 1980

Great book but a very sad story.

I didn't finish the book and don't plan on it but who assaulted her? I was also quite disappointed by some of the big reveals. The only thing I would've changed would be the simplistic and direct way the morals are given to the audience.

We've read it every year in my theater arts class for the past several years and it always leads to great discussions. Let me count how many times the grandfather is referred to as doing "poorly"! for once in my life can the nanny MIND HER BUSINESS ? Even if it had been marketed towards a remedial audience, this book would still be an insult to the readers intelligence. A parallel story is that Mandy keeps being told something happened involving her indirectly, and her gran tells her it "wasn't her fault" but she keeps wondering what went on. she remembered going to the John and Evelyn's house and played with their daughter Sarah while she was young. I found this, despite the subject(s), very easy to read. Need another excuse to treat yourself to a new book this week?

I was expecting a bit more, given the samples I've read from other books by the author. I did not like the ending at all. A true story worth the telling. She ate watching out her bedsit window as the clouds rolled in.'

This was a good story!

This book relives a painful experience of someone who was a victim at a young age and is shutting out the past. Unfortunately for me, the story itself felt very anticlimactic, making this a novel I’m unable to recommend. I didn't feel any connection to the characters, it seemed as though there was no connection between the characters either. It is fast-paced and brings the heat. I doubt i would read any more after reading this one.

In my oppinion you need help and to deal with these things strait away.
